BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

APRIL 29, 2002

The Lassen County Board of Supervisors convenes in Special Session on Monday, April 29, 2002, to interview County Counsel applicants. Present: Supervisors Robert Pyle, Jim Chapman, Lloyd Keefer, Brian Dahle, and Everd McCain; County Counsel Bill Murano, County Administrative Officer (CAO) Andy Whiteman, Personnel Director Lynne Margolies and County Clerk Theresa Nagel.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Chairman Dahle calls the meeting to order at 1:31 p.m., asks for public comment and no comments are received.

COUNTY COUNSEL INTERVIEWS

The following candidates are interviewed for the position of Lassen County Counsel: John Ketelsen at 1:32 p.m.; Peter Olson at 2:00 p.m.; Kathleen Lazard at 2:25 p.m.; and Craig Settlemire at 3:01 p.m.

Recesses are held between candidates. 1:50 - 2:00 p.m.; 2:15 - 2:25 p.m.; Supervisor McCain is absent 2:25 - 2:28 p.m.; 2:59 - 3:01 p.m.

Supervisor Chapman asks if the interview team has further information to provide. Personnel Director Margolies indicates she has background information that should be handled in closed session.

CLOSED SESSION

The board members recess to closed session at 3:30 p.m. to receive information from the Personnel Director. Present: Supervisors Robert Pyle, Jim Chapman, Lloyd Keefer, Brian Dahle, and Everd McCain; County Counsel Bill Murano, County Administrative Officer (CAO) Andy Whiteman, Personnel Director Lynne Margolies and County Clerk Theresa Nagel.

Closed session recesses at 3:50 p.m.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF ITEMS DISCUSSED IN CLOSED SESSION

The Clerk announces that the Closed Session dealt with discussion of County Counsel applicants.

It is moved by Supervisor Chapman, seconded by Supervisor McCain and carried unanimously to authorize the CAO to offer the position of County Counsel to the designated first candidate and to negotiate an acceptable salary and benefits package. If the first candidate does not accept the position, CAO is authorized to negotiate with the designated second candidate.

There being no further business, the meeting is adjourned at 3:52 p.m.
